For me, art always arises from a deep fascination with the human body. The lines, the tension, the stillness, the strength. It is an endless source of forms that I capture in sculptures. In my free work, I allow myself to be guided entirely by my own intuition and artistic compass. I work with models, choose my own compositions, determine the size, materials, coloring, and the overall presence of a sculpture. It is my personal language. My signature.
My free works are immediately available and often unique, true one of a kind pieces. I deeply enjoy the moment when a sculpture simply finds its way to a new owner, purely because someone has fallen in love with a piece created by my hands.
Alongside this free work, however, there is another world that I greatly enjoy, creating art on commission. Creating a sculpture that not only carries my handwriting, but also reflects the wishes, dreams, and personality of the client. That is a special form of collaboration.
Sometimes I am approached by designers or interior architects. They sketch a mood, a space, a feeling. They ask me to design a sculpture for their project. In those cases, I naturally think along with them, while maintaining a great deal of artistic freedom. They choose me because my work has a certain presence and aesthetic, and that becomes the guiding reference point in the design.
Another form occurs when a client is looking for a more personal design. These are people who encounter my sculptures in a gallery, at an event, on my website, or in someone’s home. They feel this suits me, this fits my home, this fits my life. That feeling is always the beginning of an intimate and creative process. These commissioned works are often centered on the client themselves and on a concrete idea, a specific pose, shape, color, or finish that speaks to them. Others come with nothing more than a feeling they wish to capture.
Whether I work in complete freedom or on commission, I always remain true to my own signature. That is the reason people approach me. They recognize themselves in my work, the forms, the colors, and the compositions I use. They are drawn to my style.
I am very happy to think along, but I do not create art outside my own signature. That is why I always invite clients to first take a close look at my work. Do you see the forms, the texture, the balance, the way I translate the body? If so, we can create a sculpture that truly fits, both you and me.
For me, a commission always begins with a conversation. A thorough, personal conversation in which I ask many questions, such as Who are you What do you find beautiful What touches you in my sculptures Where will the artwork be placed and what does the space look like Do you want the sculpture to express strength, calm, movement, tenderness, and so on
I take the time to truly get to know someone. Ultimately, that becomes the foundation of the design, your personality, your environment, your wishes, and my artistic language.
It happens that someone is so proud of their own body that they wish to have a sculpture made of themselves. This may be the most personal form of a commission. In such cases, I work with the client as my model. They wish for a sculpture of themselves, or for example as a couple of each other. It is a beautiful process built on trust.
In other cases, people choose a model from my own archive of models. This is ideal when they are looking for a specific body shape, posture, or presence that suits the artwork intended for them. The design always moves within my visual language, because that is what gives the sculpture its character.
Whether it is free work or a commissioned piece, I always work with the same intention, to honor the body, to make strength visible, and to capture forms that tell a story.
If you are curious about the possibilities of a commissioned sculpture, feel free to request a personal consultation. I can advise you in depth, and together we will explore what I can create for you. Please do not hesitate to get in touch. This may be the very first step toward a unique artwork, created especially for you.
With love,
Petra
